GC Rieber VivoMega expands production with new state-of-the-art omega-3 facility

A major step in our commitment to sustainable omega-3 production.

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion and grand opening of our expanded omega-3 manufacturing facility campus in Norway. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on May 24, 2024, where our chairman and GC Rieber Group CEO, Jan Roger Bjerkestrand, officially opened the new facility.

This expansion marks a significant milestone in our dedication to sustainability, innovation, and quality. With this new facility, we have doubled our production capacity for our high-end triglyceride-form omega-3 EPA and DHA, as well as our certified vegan EPA & DHA algal oils.

Strengthening our production capabilities

The completion of this $75 million investment, finished two years ahead of schedule, reinforces our commitment to delivering the highest-quality omega-3 products. Our expanded manufacturing facility now includes:

  • A 38,000 metric ton storage tank park, ensuring enhanced supply chain efficiency.
  • A fully electric steam boiler, allowing all three of our facilities to run on 100% renewable energy.
  • Advanced heating systems, designed to maintain oil quality and enable optimal extraction in colder months.
  • Additional nitrogen systems, which remove oxygen to further enhance product stability and sensory profiles.

Our commitment to sustainability and innovation

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our new manufacturing campus is fully aligned with the EU Green Deal initiatives and follows the UN Global Compact guidelines. In addition, we are SEDEX-certified, reinforcing our commitment to ethical and responsible production.

To further reduce our environmental footprint, we have leveraged our existing infrastructure—including docks, tanks, and laboratories—allowing us to expand efficiently while minimizing waste and optimizing resource use.

Investing in the local community and creating jobs

This expansion is more than just an increase in capacity—it’s also an investment in our people and the local economy. As we continue to grow, our expanded facility will create new jobs and strengthen the role of Kristiansund as a global hub for high-quality omega-3 production.

Shaping the future of omega-3 innovation

With the completion of our new facility, we are better positioned than ever to meet the growing global demand for sustainable, traceable, and high-purity omega-3 products. Whether it’s our marine-based EPA and DHA or our vegan-friendly algal omega-3 solutions, we remain dedicated to setting new standards in quality, purity, and sustainability.

We are excited about this next chapter and look forward to continuing our mission of delivering premium omega-3 solutions to our customers worldwide.
